Optimizing production processes from lab to industrial scale



A crucial step before industrial production of a natural compound consists on optimising fermentation conditions for selected bacterial strains from the DEINOVE's collection. DEINOVE’s Fermentation platform is equipped with state-of-the-art instruments that range from a number of small fermentors for process optimisation to preindustrial sized fermentors for easy transfer to large-scale production.

A platform to attain optimum product yields

DEINOVE’s fermentation platform has developed the capacity to optimise fermentation conditions at a pace that is rare within the R&D industry. It includes a total of 28 fermentors (from 1 to 20-liter tanks), all of which can be operated in batch, fed-batch or continuous modes for better adaptability to the strains and compounds of interest. The tanks are equipped with probes to fully and continuously monitor every fermentation run; the probes measure temperature, pO2, pH, redox potential, glucose and analyse the exhaust gas by mass spectrometry. The online data generated is collected by Deinolink, an interface created for the raw data formatting and a good traceability. The generated data are then analyzed and the physiological behaviors of the strains are interpreted by an expert team of 8 people.

Finally, the possibility to scale the fermentation process up to 20-liter tanks ensures easy transfer of a fermentation process to industrial-scale production. Backed by a first successful industrialization of its process, DEINOVE's team manages to take account of industrial challenges (suitable raw materials, COGS, ...), while developing the process on the lab scale.
